Dr. Katie Kangas

Dr. Katie Kangas

DVM, CVA, CVCP

I am an integrative veterinarian, which means that I focus on preventative health and supporting natural healing or wellness through many holistic options in combination with traditional veterinary medicine.

Preventative wellness and holistic care options include diet/food choices, nutritional supplements, acupuncture, herbal medicines, homeopathic remedies, essential oils and more.

Conventional medicine (for both animals & people) tends to focus more on the treatment of disease and the symptoms of disease, after the condition or illness presents itself. While this type of health care can have value, it also has limitations.

Preventative and integrative veterinary medicine aim to support the animal’s health through diet, nutrition and lifestyle practices that allow our pets to be more resilient to disease and live better quality lives. In other words, providing our pets with the tools to thrive, rather than to just survive.

In my opinion, the most balanced health care uses a combination of both conventional and holistic options. This is called Integrative Medicine.

It is my goal to empower pet parents to make better choices and take a more active role in promoting health and quality of life for their pets.

DVM

Dr. Brianne Jenks graduated from Western University of Health Sciences College of Veterinary Medicine in 2009. She worked in several very busy conventional practices for 7 years before starting her journey into integrative care.

Her heart dog Cheyanne had been diagnosed with terminal cancer and Dr. Jenks wanted to make sure she was doing everything possible to support Cheyanne. It was during this time she discovered just how important nutrition, herbal medicines, acupuncture, chiropractic and other modalities were on health and overall wellness. Cheyanne thrived during this time and far surpassed expectations and Dr. Jenks attributed that to the integration of holistic care.

Dr.Jenks and her family have 2 dogs, 1 bunny, 5 chickens, 3 ducks and 1 kitten.

Practice Manager

My name is Jessica and I am the Practice Manager, and a Certified Holistic Carnivore Nutritionist.

I am a trained researcher, receiving my Masters degree from UCLA in 2019. During my last year in graduate school, Hamilton (an 8-week old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel) entered my life.  By the time I graduated, he had been diagnosed with Chiari Malformation, a heart murmur, and hip dysplasia.

Being the center of my world, I began channeling my research skills into how to optimize Hamilton’s health. Over the last several years, I have dedicated my life to improving the lives of animals through nutrition and being proactive with their health.

I have fostered several dogs for which I have facilitated recovery and helped transition them to living their best life with their forever families.

My expertise is with congenital diseases, senior dogs, dogs suffering from allergies, environmental toxicity, the safest protocols for immunization, mental enrichment, dogs suffering from anxiety, and overall general wellbeing.

My goal is to provided pet parents with the guidance and tools to optimize their lives, whether they be just starting out as a puppy, or in their golden years.

Ozone-Energy-Massage

I have always had a passion for being of service to people and animals. After 34 years of teaching emotionally, behaviorally and academically challenged students, I retired and began pursuing myinterest in animal wellness.

My partner and I rescued a dog from the streets of Tijuana, and it was here that I began a journey of attending to his special needs, some of which traditional veterinary care did not address. I discovered the benefits of acupuncture, massage, laser therapy and chiropractic care in helping my precious companion recover and gain good health. This journey inspired me to begin a new path of gaining as many skills as possible to help create and maintain wellness for animals.

My mission is to create space to nurture, provide and restore comfort to all living things.

Client Services

With more than three decades experience in high tech, working with pets and their humans has been a welcome change of pace. A decade ago, I didn’t know that integrative vets existed; and I was so happy to have found Dr. Kangas. Now, to be part of the team making such a difference in so many lives is quite gratifying.

I excel at setting the tone for a “good day” and enjoy every interaction with IVC clients. I want you to know I am passionate about all that IVC has to offer and look forward to helping clients through the process so their pets can begin to receive their best care.

My favorite part of working at IVC is watching the animals who come in not doing so well, progress toward a better quality of life, full of love and happiness.

While I am presently cat-less, I have a very special place in my heart for felines and for pitties.

Reception

Jen is thrilled to be back in the work force and working with the IVC team after raising her two teenagers.

She came out of the womb loving animals and couldn’t be more tickled that she gets to spend all day greeting the amazing dogs and their equally amazing owners.

She and her husband raise Staffordshire Bull Terriers and own four currently. They live at the beach and take their pack there every other day.
